Senior Teddy Trimble is the new mascot of the University of Mercer Island men's basketball team, Herbert the Islander, who has never been seen in physical shape since his freshman year.

Loomis - Chaffee School will play the first team from the King County School District in the state's high school football playoffs tomorrow. The district wants to offer more face-to-face instruction to young students rather than face-to-face or remote learning, but Colosky said the district has not set a date for that. Similar plans are underway at other schools aimed at helping younger students learn in school after Governor Jay Inslee released updated guidelines last year to encourage more "personal" tuition, he said.

Goalie Pietro Vontempo made 20 saves in an outstanding effort, Jack Boyle scored twice and Kenzie Pleshaw scored three goals. Jette's sister, sophomore Jordan Jette, had a two-goal assist for the Panthers, who led 13-1 at halftime. Grace MacCallum had two goals, four draws and two assists for Mercer Island (7-5).
Max Waltzman had 11 kills and Peter Thabit added six aces as Natick defeated Bay State Conference opponent Norwood. Jack DiConza contributed seven throws, two blocks, as Framingham (5-0, BSC) continued its winning streak at 11-25, 7-15, 25-17. Tyler Chan had seven throws and six aces for the Wildcats (3-1, 1-2 BCS), who knocked out the Eagles (2-4, 0-3).
Junior Carter Burruss had 10 kills, two blocks and an ace to lead Millis (3-1) to a 25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 15-13 victory over Everett. The towering Eric Civitti set a school record with eight goals as his team celebrated an 18-4 victory over Sharon. Eric Holden and Connor McCarthy each scored five goals as the defending champions Lincoln - Sudbury Boys' Lacrosse rolled past Mercer Island, 10-3, in front of a 7,000-strong crowd at Lincoln Memorial Stadium.
In the 2009 / 2010 season, the boys remained unbeaten in swimming and diving and won their second national title in three years. The basketball team, formerly coached by former Mercer Island High School coach Bill Pepple, who won four titles in eight overall appearances, suffered its first loss in 38 years in 2006. After opting for what is now Everett Community College for one season, he moved to Utah, where he was elected team captain and helped the Utes to the NCAA tournament in 1955. He coached two of the most successful high school basketball teams in Washington State history, played for Duke and one of its most famous teams, the Duke Blue Devils, and won three state championship titles as a member of Duke's basketball program.
The former Marine is known as the tactician and motivator in the maroon blazers and has been synonymous with Mercer Island tires since 1968. Alpine Paralympic skier who competed in the 1988 and 1992 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Since then, he has been inducted into several indoor pools, including the National Basketball Hall of Fame and the United States Olympic Ski and Snowboard Association.
